Microsoft v. Google

In a couple of weeks, Microsoft will be releasing Office Live, which is their collection of online business services. It has been in beta testing since February, and it should be interesting to see how Microsoft's business services compare with the ones Google released a couple months ago.

One notable thing about the Microsoft one is that there is a "basic" package for small businesses which is free, and comes with some handy features for a budding business (domain name, email accounts, etc.) On the other hand, Google's basic services are free to everybody (though Google doesn't offer domain names).

Should be interesting to see how they stack up. And hopefully the competition will drive both of these companies to continue offering such useful software to the business world.

Google Business!

Google is about to enter into Microsoft's realm, and they're not treading lightly. Google plans to announce their new collection of business tools, which would be in direct competition to Microsoft's business suite. And best of all, Google is providing theirs for FREE (though they plan to introduce a special version for a fee at a later date).

We use Google's blogging software, which is pretty cool, so I personally expect these new business tools (including a spreadsheet and word processing application) to be pretty useful as well.
