GMAT Tip of the Week

(This is one of a series of GMAT tips that we offer on our blog.)

Only is the Same as Always (in this regard)

Most test-takers know to be careful when encountering universal modifiers (all, none, never, always) in Critical Reasoning problems. Similarly, less-noticeable words like “only” and “same” have unique, exact meanings that lead to specific, limiting statements. The GMAT uses these words frequently; while a word like “all” typically leads a sentence, a word like “only” is often buried within the text and therefore more difficult to find. Train yourself to spot these limiting modifiers wherever they may appear.
